WHAT DOES A WEDDING DJ DO THAT AND IPOD CAN’T?

1/25/2018

When it Comes down to budgeting people often choose a “Reception Playlist” rather than DJ because it cheaper. When it comes the financial aspect of it people really do not see the purpose of paying for a DJ if they believe they essentially do the same thing. Your iPod is simply just a music player and your DJ is a mood setter, memory creator and so much more. Your iPod can not read a crowd or know what sequence to play songs in. As an experienced DJ you often see Brides and Grooms who do not understand the music taste of their guest. So as a DJ i am forced to pivot from the genres of music that they have given me to something that will get people on the dance floor quickly. So if this happens when the bride and groom sets their playlist it leaves the dance floor empty and it also pulls their attention to something else a professional Dj should take care of. Technology is great but sometimes you can not replace the human element in music.

Wedding Reception songs and Why DJ’s play them

Wedding reception music can make or break the wedding. The music is what people will talk about for years to come. People love to dance and they will be able to dance if the DJ provides great music. It is a strategic process when it comes to picking songs and the particular timing. Timing is everything. I’ll say it again TIMING IS EVERYTHING. A skilled DJ knows what music is going to loosen people up and get them on the dance floor. After all this is the celebration of two of families becoming one so being able to get them the dance is key. Line dances, 80’s rock, and hip hop all have their place in the night. Reading the crowd is by far the most important skill that is needed in being a good DJ. If your DJ cannot read the crowd he will not be very successful. Sometimes you will hear two songs that are two completely different genres and you wonder why the DJ played that. He is reading the crowd trying to get a gage on what he can play and what he cannot. This happens often early on so he can get an idea of what to play and when to play it. This is the biggest differences when it comes to a playlist because often time on a playlist you get music that the couple wants to hear but not what the crowd wants. So getting a skilled DJ could make turn your reception from average to amazing very quickly so choose wisely!

Bouquet and Garter Toss A tradition to keep or toss?

Bouquet and Garter Toss is considered a wedding tradition that has been around for a long time. Even with reception trends and formats constantly changing this is one tradition that has always been there. Here of late that has not been the case some couples have decided to keep those activities out. It all comes down to personal preference. Some couples have decided against it because it can be too explicit at times and they just aren’t comfortable enough with it. Others have just went with the bouquet toss and leave out the garter toss because it can makes the guest or couple feel awkward. As the reception DJ and Emcee it is our job to make sure that awkwardness and is gone and provide comfortability. A few words of encouragement and getting the crowd involved can go a very long way. In the end keeping this tradition is a great idea and selecting the right DJ can make this tradition flow smooth and seamlessly.
